Those with an interest in history or those who were around then will remember that William Ayers was one of the founding members of the Weather Underground. This was a left-wing group not afraid to take to terrorist activities. Bill Ayers is a professor of Education at the University of Illinois but back then he shouted slogans like “ Kill all rich people … kill your parents, bring home the revolution ”.

Gordon Brown has had a lot of good fortune in recent weeks, as the economic crisis has forced him to take decisive action and at the same time provided real strategic problems for the conservatives. His latest coup is orchestrating the return of Peter Mandelson, the so-called Prince of Darkness and father of the notorious New Labour spin machine, to cabinet. A potentially profitable move on several levels: (i) it shows he's given up on the hope he can run government without senior figures; (ii) it ends the rumours of a potential Blairite coup against him (Blair approved Mandelson's decision to return); and (iii) Mandelson might actually get the job done (rumours are the DTI staff's delight at seeing him back might not even have been manufactured for the cameras).

For the other side, the Dodgers have a much different story. Counted out for much of the year their 2nd half resurgence, thanks in large part to Manny Ramirez, has put them in position to shock everyone in their path. Manager Joe Torre seems to have this Dodgers team focused and motivated. Torre is no stranger to postseason play with now 79 playoff wins under his belt. The first 76 of course came with the Yankees. His last three however remind you more of his first postseason go around with the Yankees in 1996. That team not yet a super star ladened lineup were more the underdog than favorite. Either way if Torre and the Dodgers have their way, Torre will be celebrating his 87th postseason victory come the end of October.

Barney Frank was opposing the proposed plan for congressional regulation of Fannie and Freddie simply because it would adversely affect lower-income families from obtaining a loan. If this was simply politics on Frank's part, then he's too inept to serve as Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. He knew the science behind the savings and loan fiasco of the 1980s, and he knew the science behind the bursting of the dot com bubble just two years prior (2001). He was encouraging bad lending practices by the two firms most responsible for the present crisis.

Kevin Farley (the younger brother of the late Chris Farley) plays a guy named Michal Malone who is a parody of Michal Moore. Kelsey Grammer and Jon Voight both do great jobs as Patton and Washington. Not only do I love the way the movie makes fun of Michal Fatass Mooron, but the ACLU zombies were so funny I thouht I was going to pee in my pants! An American Carol is a movie for Republicans mostly so if you are a diehard Democrat you might want to stay way from it. God Bless David Zucker!

Gina Carano extended her undefeated streak to 6-0 (and kept her clothes on), by defeating Kelly Kobold in a unanimous decision. Despite a wrestling strategy by Kobold, Carano dominated with her fists and cage control. There has never been a female Elite XC champion, but I think it's about time. The rumors of a match-up between Carano and the dynamic Cris Cyborg would make for a great fight.

I'm a fan of the Coen Brothers'Raising Arizona, so I get their twisted humor. We weren't disappointed. There were laughs throughout at the absurdity of the situations facing all the characters. Brad Pitt should do comedy more often, John Malkovich is just awesome, and Frances Mcdormand and Tilda Swinton were great. Even George Clooney did a good job essentially playing himself - a womanizing guy who surfs the'net for love, even though he's married and has a couple of unusual habits.

Their pitching was among the best in baseball this year as well. Ryan Dempster and Ted Lilly had 17 wins each. They traded for Rich Harden who produced a mind boggling 1.77 ERA for his new team. Kerry Wood, against all odds, converted to the Cubs closer and was dominant. Chris Marmol and the rest of the bullpen were as close to lights out as any bullpen in baseball. And if you didn't think this was a special year yet, then the amazing happened. Carlos Zambrano pitched the 1st Cubs no-hitter since 1972.

Carson Palmer has been throwing the ball well in practice and the Bengals have their fingers crossed that he will be ready to start against the Cowboys on Sunday. If they have to start Ryan Fitzpatrick again this game could turn into a bloodbath. The Bengals should just come out throwing the ball in this game as T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Chad Johnson and Chris Henry could give the Cowboys ’ D big trouble if Palmer has time to throw the ball. That ’ s a big if as the Bengals have allowed 12 sacks this season and the Cowboys ’ D also has 12 sacks this year. The Cowboys don ’ t have a great run defense but Chris Perry (208 yards, 2.9 ypc, 2 Tds) has not looked good this year.

Where the candidates ’ positions are more clearly articulated, Mr Obama scores better on nearly every issue: promoting fiscal discipline, energy policy, reducing the number of people without health insurance, controlling health-care costs, reforming financial regulation and boosting long-run economic growth. Twice as many economists think Mr Mccain ’ s plan would be bad or very bad for long-run growth as Mr Obama ’ s. Given how much focus Mr Mccain has put on his plan ’ s benefits for growth, this last is quite a repudiation.

The Cardinals also must remain somewhat balanced or the Bills will turn the dogs loose on the pass rush as Kurt Warner has already been sacked 12 times this season and the Bills have 10 sacks. When Warner has pressure in his face he sometimes panics as was proven last week when he turned the ball over often. The Cardinals should get Edgerrin James and rookie RB Tim Hightower the ball often on the ground early in the game to loosen up the Bills ’ defense. Warner has thrown for 1,222 yards this season already so look for him to get the football to Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston often this week.

By the director of City of God, comes the tale of a city infected by a blinding virus. When the protagonist ’ s (played by Julianne Moore) husband, an eye doctor (played by Mark Ruffalo) contracts the virus, she goes with him to quarantine, claiming that she too has the virus. When they arrive, they realize that they have been “ thrown away ”, and will have to fend for themselves. There are 3rd party candidates, and not just the ones I like, Ralph Nader and Bob Barr who get little or almost media attention but even the lesser 3rd party candidates such as Charles Baldwin of the Constitution Party. Or Cynthia Mckinney of the Green Party, and her Running mate Rosa Clemente (A black women and a Hispanic women who have recieved no media attention from any of the major networks that I "ve seen. If this is wrong please show me.) As well as various other partys I'm not going into... because they 're socialist (literally) or religioius fanatics (the prohibition party).

This should be a interesting game of contrasting styles especially on offense. The Saints will try to throw the ball to get the lead and then grind it out on the ground. The Vikings allow 207.5 yards passing per game so Drew Brees should have a decent game. Brees will throw the short stuff to WR Lance Moore, TE Billy Miller and Reggie Bush out of the backfield. But, he will take some shots deep to Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem who are both averaging over 35.5 yards per reception. The Saints will still run the football some to keep the Vikings ’ D honest with Reggie Bush, Deuce Mcallister and Pierre Thomas. The Vikings only allow 71.8 yards rushing per game and 2.9 ypc.

Seattle Seahawks @ New York Giants – the defending champs jumped all over Seattle from the start. beginning on their own 9, the remaining 91 yard came easily. Brandon Jacobs ripped off a 44 yard run, setting up a 32 yard touchdown pass from Eli Manning to Dominic Hixon. After a Seattle field goal, Manning ripped off passes of 22 and 29 yards to Amani Toomer, setting up Brandon Jacobs from 3 yards out. Big blue led 14-3 at the end of the 1st quarter, and added a field goal seconds into the 2nd quarter. This game was over by halftime as an 11 play, 6 1/2 minute drive led to a 1 yard Jacobs plunge. The Giants led 27-6 at the break, and continued to pour it on in the second half.

Astrobanana spent last evening watching a movie with DGT at Orchard Cineleisure. The movie was Vicky Cristina Barcelona, which was directed by Woody Allen and starred Javier Bardem, Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz and Rebecca Hall. It was a nice funny movie, although they did miss the first 20 minutes, no thanks to Astrobanana being late and DGT being even later.

The Saints have a very soft defense and the Vikings will be attacking it with the running game. Look for Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor to get a lot of work agains a Saints ’ D that is allowing 122.8 yards rushing per game and 5.2 yards per carry. After the run game is established look for Gus Frerotte to take some shots down the field to Bernard Berrian and Bobby Wade against a Saints ’ D that is allowing 249.3 yards passing per game.

The Cowboys would like to have a balanced offense against the Bengals and that will be possible as the Bengals are allowing 164.3 yards rushing per game and 4.3 ypc this season. Marion Barber should have a huge game against the Bengals tomorrow. The Bengals ’ defense only has 2 sacks this season so Tony Romo should have all day to pick apart the pass D. Is the name of Brian Eno and David Byrne ’ s new “ electronic Gospel ” album. It ’ s their first collaborative release since “ My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, ” an experimental thing that came out in 1981, which was great, but pretty weird (which is probably why I thought it was great). I ’ m going to have to listen to ” Everything ” a few more times before I know how much staying power it ’ s going to have, but so far I ’ m enjoying it. It ’ s very folksy, but also feels thick and full, if that makes any sense. It ’ s more straight forward than “ Bush of Ghosts, ” but the aura of ambient experimental electronica sort of floats around the whole time - something you can sense but that doesn ’ t punch you in the face like it usually does with Eno. Not that that ’ s a bad thing.

Londons new Mayor Boris Johnson took the bull by the horns by telling it like it is when he pointedly laid it down to Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair that he would be unable to work with him with regard to the policing of London. Although no blood relation to “ Teflon ” they are or were arch cronies of the type that invariably exudes a strong whiff of patronage. Fortunately the Mayors remark registered and the Commissioner resigned despite profesed continuing support and much huffing and puffing from the Home Office. Sir Ian Blairs reign at Scotland Yard has followed much the same trajectory as the current Governments long on talk and short on delivery, it is doubtful if he will be missed at street level.
