Tips and Tricks for Searching the Blogosphere

Simple Search

BlogPulse works like a typical search engine, except that it is tuned to search only on blog data. Simply enter your term into our search box and click "Go" to find blogs that match your results.

Search Blogs:

returns results where the term camera is found.

If your query contains more than one search term, BlogPulse will automatically (and by default) return results that match ALL the search terms.

Search Blogs:

returns results where both the terms digital and camera are found

You can search for a phrase by putting double –quote marks " " around the terms of the query.

Search Blogs:

returns results where the phrase digital camera is found.

You can use the plus (+) and minus (–) signs to ensure that certain words are included or excluded from your query.

Search Blogs:

returns results where both the phrase digital camera and the word zoom are mentioned.

Search Blogs:

returns results where the phrase digital camera is found but doesn’t mention the word zoom.

Capitalization

BlogPulse searches are not case sensitive. All letters in your search terms will be understood only as lower case. I.e. A search for digital camera will return the same results as Digital Camera.

Boolean Queries

BlogPulse supports Boolean query operators such as AND, OR, NOT, and parentheses to conduct complex queries. Note: All Boolean operators must be in UPPERCASE (ALL CAPS) letters.

Use the OR operator to find documents matching either of two terms being searched.

Search Blogs:

returns results where either the phrase digital camera or the word digicam is found.

Use the AND operator to find documents matching both terms of a query being searched.

Search Blogs:

returns results where both the phrase digital camera and the term tripod are found.

Use the NOT operator to exclude documents which contain the term after the NOToperator.

Search Blogs:

returns results where the phrase digital camera occurs but not the term digicam.

Use parentheses to group terms and operators together to form more complex queries.

Search Blogs:

returns results where the phrases digital camera or digicam occur along with either the term review or rating.

Parentheses can be used to nest sub-queries when creating even more complex queries.

Boolean queries are meant to be used by advanced searchers and can be created from the BlogPulse Advanced Search page.

Advanced Search

BlogPulse features an Advanced Search interface, which enables you to perform complex searches by selecting various criteria. In the Advanced Search interface, you can:

  • Conduct Boolean queries
  • Restrict the query to certain date ranges
  • Choose to sort the results by date (which is the default) or by relevance
  • Control how many results you want to see displayed per page.
